Description

This auction is for a 1973 BMW e12 in Polaris Silver. A 4cyl M10 engine. The car has not been on the road for a number of years but has been re-commissioned and has12 months MOT. The recent work carried out for the MOT was mainly on the braking side of things, some new Kunifer pipes were made up, most of the flexi hoses were replaced along with a new N/S/F brake calliper. A few light bulbs and a small amount of welding to the sills, which was the first welding this car has ever seen. The whole underside was treated and under sealed after the welding and is now totally solid. All new Oil and filters, wiper blades, a new battery and lots of other bits and bobs. I have fitted electronic ignition to the distributor with a new arm and cap and silicon HT leads and the car really does run very well indeed, starts first click and idles perfectly. This Car is incredibly original, but I have no history for it at all, Aparently this was lost by the previous owner, but you can see how original and well cared for the car is. The mileage is 38033, but the miles don’t click round, (speedo works fine) but I honestly believe the car could not have done much more than this due to the overall condition, the drivers seat has no wear at all. A brand new twin choke down draught Weber carb has been fitted, This replaces the twin Strombergs which were fitted from new. They were still fitted and the car ran OK but I could not get them to balance or Idle properly so fitted a new Inlet manifold and Weber carb which makes the engine run much better. This has been fitted professionally and retains all the rod linkages so the strombergs could be re fitted if required. The choke cable for the Weber has been fitted to a ‘blank’ on the dashboard and I have even used a Knob from a 2002 so all the controls Match. The air cleaner is a genuine BMW part that has been modified to fit from an early 2002. A new clutch has just been fitted with a freshly skimmed fly wheel as the previous clutch had seized itself to the flywheel. The car is complete and everything works, even the original Blaupunkt AM / LW radio, which crackles through a single mono speaker in the dash! The interior is perfect, None of the seats have any wear on them at all, The headlining is mint, the carpets are perfect all the controls work the only fault is a small crack in the dash and a crack in the steering wheel (which was the only advisory on the MOT). The engine bay is not as mucky as the pictures make out, I think it has been waxoiled in the past, there is some very superficial rust but nothing serious. The body work is very good considering the car is over 38 years old and has not been restored, but it does have a few areas which are not perfect. The bonnet has a small dent on the drivers side edge, you can just make it out in the picture. There is a scrape in the edge of the passenger side front wing, no dent just the paint has been scraped. There are a few small rust spots here and there, again nothing serious. The boot lip and behind the filler flap has the worst corrosion, but this could be repaired if you wanted to spend the money on it. I am pretty sure the rear arches are original and they have no rot at all. I also think the front wings are original and they are totally rust free!! All the doors are very good, just some very minor corrosion on the very bottom edge, the drivers door has the only scab which is about the size of a 5p on the bottom. A 50p sized rusty area at the top by the mirror has not broken the paint. The front bumper is rust free and the chrome has a good shine, the rear bumper has not done so well, it is pretty rusty and lets the car down. Mechanically the car is very good and drives well, the 4 speed box is smooth and quiet and the car will cruise easily at 70. Although I have not driven it much, I would guess that the fuel consumption would be very reasonable given the modern carb and ignition that is fitted. I have 2 sets of keys for the car. It has 2 new and 2 nearly new tyres.I have the V5 in my name. This is a very useable modern classic which will only ever increase in value. I am a BMW enthusiast and I have never seen or heard of an earlier UK delivered e12. This car was delivered on February 26th, 1973. It is therefore not tax exempt, and currently has no road tax. I would strongly urge viewing and a drive because this car is very good. Come and have a look and make me an offer. The Car is located in Brecon, Wales. You can get here in 1hr 15mins from Bristol, and around 1hr 45 from Birmingham. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them, you can call me between 9.30 and 6.00 on 07966 440609 or you can email me and I will do my best to get back to you quickly.Thanks.
